NATO Base Located 140 km from Russia

The NATO ground forces headquarters in the Scandinavian countries will be located in Mikkeli, approximately 140 km from the Russian border. This was announced by Finnish Defense Minister Antti Häkkänen.

“We will propose to establish a NATO ground forces sub-headquarters in Mikkeli,” he stated (according to TASS).

The Finnish ground forces headquarters already operates in this city. Previously, it was reported that in peacetime, the headquarters will be involved in planning and conducting NATO training activities in the region.

The new structure, termed a ‘high readiness headquarters,’ will operate around the clock and report to the Norfolk command on the eastern coast of the United States.
