Constitutional Court Publishes Decision on Demarcation Issue
The Constitutional Court of Armenia has recognized the regulations of the commissions for demarcation between Armenia and Azerbaijan as compliant with the Constitution.
“Based on the results of the examination of the case and in accordance with point 3 of Article 168 and parts 1 and 4 of Article 170 of the Constitution, as well as Articles 63, 64, and 74 of the Constitutional Law on the Constitutional Court, the Court DECIDES:
- The obligations stipulated in the regulations of the joint activities of the state demarcation commission between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, signed on August 30, 2024, comply with the Constitution.
- According to part 2 of Article 170 of the Constitution, this decision is final and takes effect from the moment of publication,” reads the concluding part of the Court's decision.
The full text of the Constitutional Court's decision will be published in the coming days. The regulations for the demarcation commissions will be sent to the National Assembly for ratification.
It is noteworthy that the regulations were signed on August 30, after which the government granted its consent on September 5 and sent it to the Court to determine the constitutionality of the document. The Constitutional Court commenced examination of the case on September 24 through a written procedure.
