1 Million Cubic Meters of Gas from Azerbaijan to Serbia Daily: New Agreement Signed
Serbia expects to receive 1 million cubic meters of natural gas daily from Azerbaijan under a new agreement effective from November 1 until the end of the heating season. This was announced by Serbia's Minister of Energy, Dubravka Jedovic-Handanovic, according to RIA Novosti.
The Serbian energy minister and her Azerbaijani counterpart, Parviz Shahbazov, signed a memorandum of understanding in the field of green energy today, as well as an agreement between 'Srbijagas' and 'SOCAR' for the supply of gas from Azerbaijan.
The Serbian representative stated that they are prepared to pay for Russian gas in rubles. According to Jedovic-Handanovic, the memorandum signed in Baku in 2023 provides for annual supply of up to 400 million cubic meters of gas until 2026, with the possibility of increasing to up to 1 billion cubic meters.
This winter, from November 1 to March 31, Serbia will receive 1 million cubic meters of gas daily. The minister also emphasized that the energy cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan is becoming strategic and contributes to strengthening bilateral relations.
Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov stated in September that Azerbaijan plans to increase its gas supplies to Serbia to up to 1 billion cubic meters annually.
