Armenia's Support Should Not Be Underestimated: Azerbaijani Ambassador
The Azerbaijani ambassador to the UK, Elin Suleymanov, responded to a Guardian article that claimed the peace idea for COP29 is a cynical PR trick to distract the world from ethnic cleansing in Artsakh. During the conference and in the week before and after, Azerbaijan calls on all countries with conflicts to lay down their arms. According to the ambassador, this initiative is similar to an Olympic truce.
"The conflict between Azerbaijan and our neighboring Armenia has lasted more than three decades. Therefore, Armenia's support for hosting COP29 in Baku should not be underestimated. The peace that has eluded our nations for 30 years has finally arrived," Suleymanov stated, adding that all countries in the world, including Armenia's current leadership, recognize Artsakh as Azerbaijani sovereign territory.
"Peace in our troubled region was unimaginable for decades. The fact that our region can now host COP29 as a direct result of peaceful negotiations should give hope to the world even during these times of increasing geopolitical tension," the ambassador noted.
