The Region is on the Brink of Inevitable Disaster, Warns UN
Hundreds of thousands of people are seeking shelter as Hezbollah's missiles were launched from Lebanon towards northern Israel on Sunday, according to Israeli military reports, while the United Nations has warned about an inevitable disaster in the region due to escalating violence. This was reported by AFP.
It is noted that Israel has signaled its intention to focus on the Hezbollah movement following nearly a year of border shelling caused by the war in Gaza. The mutual shelling has resumed after the Israeli army announced that dozens of Israeli military aircraft were delivering 'massive' strikes on Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon.
As a result of Friday's airstrike by Israel, the commander of Hezbollah's elite unit, Ibrahim Akeel, was killed. 'Considering that the region is on the brink of an inevitable disaster, it is hard to overstate the fact that there is no military solution that would make either side safer,' stated UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon, Janine Hennis-Plasschaert, on social media platform X.
The Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that the number of casualties from the attack in southern Beirut reached 45 on Friday. Meanwhile, the Israeli military declared that more than 100 rockets were launched from Lebanon early Sunday morning.
