Young Man Injures Himself in Yerevan, Then Calls Police: What is Known
On September 17, a 22-year-old resident of Yerevan, Gevorg B., called the police station of the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Erebuni division, reporting that three unknown individuals demanded money from him on the street. He stated that he gave them the cash he had, after which he was subjected to violence.
Gevorg B. invited the police to the Erebuni division, where he disclosed that about six months ago, he took a loan in the amount of 500,000 Armenian drams from 'Hayekonombank' in his name. He made the first two payments from his salary, but was unable to pay the third installment, approximately 24,000 drams. In an effort to earn money, he began making bets at one of the bookmakers operating in Yerevan, where he initially had some success and, feeling encouraged, placed another bet.
On September 16, he received his salary of 140,000 drams, of which he had to give 100,000 drams to his parents. However, after handing over the money and making the loan payment, he had no cash left. This prompted him to try to win money again through betting, but he ended up losing the earlier amount bit by bit.
The next day, when he could not find the money by any other means, and wanting to keep his family unaware of what had happened, he decided to fabricate a story claiming that he had been robbed at gunpoint by unknown individuals. To make his story credible, he scratched his right shoulder with a key he had, and then returned home to share his fabricated account.
Under pressure from his relatives, Gevorg B. called the police and reported an invented robbery.
