UN General Assembly Calls on Israel to Withdraw from Palestine
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has adopted a resolution demanding that Israel comply with the provisions of the International Court of Justice regarding the occupied Palestinian territories and release them no later than one year from the date of the document's approval, reports RIA Novosti.
The document, adopted by the General Assembly, is based on the advisory opinion issued by the UN court, which recognized Israel's presence in the occupied Palestinian territories as illegal. The court determined that Israel must relinquish the territories, cease settlement activities, and compensate for damages caused.
In adopting the document, the General Assembly calls on Israel to end its illegal presence in the occupied Palestinian territories. Additionally, it sets a deadline, stating that Israel must take action no later than 12 months after the adoption of this resolution.
The document also demands that Israel fulfill all its legal obligations under international law, including the requirements set by the International Court of Justice, which entail the withdrawal of all forces from the occupied Palestinian territories (including air and maritime areas) and the cessation of settlement activities.
The resolution instructs Israel to compensate for damages resulting from the illegal occupation, return confiscated lands, properties, and assets, and allow displaced Palestinians due to the occupation to return to their homes.
The General Assembly has urged all states not to support the perpetuation of the situation arising from Israel's illegal presence, including taking measures to cease the importation of any goods produced in Israeli settlements and halting the supply or transfer of arms.
