Joe Biden and Donald Trump Have Had a 'Heartfelt Conversation'

U.S. President Joe Biden has had a phone conversation with former President Donald Trump following an assassination attempt against him, reports the White House.

“President Biden just spoke with former President Trump and expressed his relief about his safety,” the report states. It is noted that Biden and Trump had a “heartfelt conversation.”

For his part, the former president thanked Biden for the call. “We had a very pleasant conversation, it was about the work of the Secret Service,” Trump said.

On Sunday, gunfire occurred near a golf club in Florida where Trump was present. According to three senior law enforcement officials, the suspect in the assassination attempt against Trump has been arrested and identified as 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Ruth. He was armed with a handgun and was outside the golf club when the former president was playing golf around noon on Sunday.

Reports indicate that Ruth managed to extend the barrel of the gun through the golf course's chain-link fence. The Secret Service noticed him and opened fire. Afterward, Ruth, who had not fired at Trump, attempted to flee the scene in a vehicle but was eventually apprehended. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of nearly $500,000.
