It is Hypocrisy for Hungary to Organize Camps for Children from Artsakh, Ombudsman Says
Organizing camps for children from Artsakh by Hungary is a sheer hypocrisy and a cheap "humanitarian gesture" that should not be given attention. This was stated by the Ombudsman of Artsakh, Gegham Stepanyan, on his Facebook page, referring to Hungary's plan to organize a camp for 1,000 children from Artsakh.
"So, you are probably aware that within the framework of cooperation with the Hungarian government, about 120 children who were displaced from Artsakh have gone to Hungary to participate in a summer camp, and according to reports, an additional 1,000 children are supposed to go. Hungary is a country that has traditionally held pro-Turkish and pro-Azerbaijani positions, particularly regarding the issue of Artsakh. Hungary is the country that extradited the murderer Ramil Safarov to Azerbaijan. Hungary is also the country that participated at the highest level, that of the Prime Minister, in the summit of Turkic states held in the occupied and depopulated Shushi following the genocide and ethnic cleansing in Artsakh.
During the blockade, there should have been a joint statement from all 27 member states of the European Union regarding the situation in Artsakh, but Hungary blocked it. I clearly remember the emphatic pro-Azerbaijani speech given by the Hungarian representative during a UN Security Council session when the severe humanitarian situation in Artsakh due to the blockade was discussed. After all this, organizing camps for children from Artsakh is simply hypocrisy and a cheap 'humanitarian gesture' that should not be given attention. Dear parents, while I certainly cannot decide for you, and I do not aspire to, please consider carefully which country you are sending your children to when making the decision to send them to Hungary."
