Heavy Rains May Become Part of Yerevan's Reality for Two More Decades

The Armenian Environmental Front reports that heavy rains may continue to be part of Yerevan's reality for the next two decades, according to certain climate change forecasts. In this regard, we are not unique. Flooding has increased in hundreds of other locations around the world. These floods have even more severe consequences due to the shortsighted urban planning, overdevelopment, and asphalt-concreting typical of capitalist, consumption-driven economies.

But let’s take a look at what other affected cities are doing. The Bangkok city administration has launched a massive urban forest project aimed at absorbing rainwater through soil and vegetation. It is set to be completed and opened this December, with an investment of $20 million, which is much less than the costs of damage caused by flooding each year.
