China Demands US to Abandon Plans for Tariff Increases on Goods
Chinese authorities are demanding that the United States abandon plans to increase tariffs on a wide range of goods manufactured in the People's Republic of China. This was reported by TASS, citing the Chinese Ministry of Commerce.
"The United States should immediately review its erroneous approach and cancel all (increased) tariffs on Chinese goods," the ministry stated in a press release.
The department reminded that Beijing has repeatedly approached Washington to complain about the additional tariffs, which China believes violate World Trade Organization rules and exacerbate issues in the global market.
The ministry emphasized that the actions of the US represent "unilateral protectionism" that disrupts the international trade order and the stability of global supply chains.
"In the end, all costs will fall on the shoulders of American companies and consumers," the department added, highlighting that China will protect the interests of its national enterprises and take necessary measures.
Earlier, Reuters reported that the US plans to significantly increase tariffs on a number of Chinese products, including electric vehicles, solar panels, semiconductors, and steel. New tariffs, including a 100% tariff on Chinese electric vehicles and a 50% tariff on solar panels, are expected to come into effect on September 27.
