Tense Situation in Bagaran: School Students Have Been Protesting for 3 Days

In the administrative district of Bagaran, part of the enlarged community of Baghramyan in the Armavir region, students have been on strike for three days. The reason for the protest is the construction of a new educational complex, which, once operational, will lead to the closure of the primary school in the district. Consequently, children will have to travel five kilometers to attend school in the neighboring Yervandashat.

“According to the government’s program, it was decided to build an educational complex for two villages, and we were told it would be located between the two villages. However, we have recently learned that construction has begun next to the school in Yervandashat. But this is being done without a construction permit. The issue will be discussed again in the city council meeting on September 18, but construction is already underway. Why should such actions be taken without a decision?” said Bagaran resident Zohrab Galstyan in an interview with MediaHub.

He noted that as a sign of protest, they have not been sending their children to school for three days.

This morning, residents of Bagaran are holding a protest in the village, demanding that their school not be closed. Parents are also requesting a meeting with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Earlier, after a consultation at the Regional Governor's office, the school principal urged parents to send all children to class starting Monday. The Governor of Armavir reassured that the Bagaran school will not be closed.
