New Bridge Will Shorten Road to Lars
To ensure a faster connection to Lars, the highest bridge will be built in Georgia. This was announced by the Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Irakli Karseladze.
The bridge is part of the 23-kilometer highway project from Kveshenti to Kobi. The project plans to construct a dual-layer asphalt-concrete road with five bridges and five tunnels, renovate one bridge, and build a 5 km road leading to the Gudauri ski resort.
"This will be the highest bridge, with support pillars reaching heights of 48 and 47 meters. Until now, our highest support pillars were 42 meters, located on the Khashuri bypass road (in the Shida Kartli region)," said Karseladze.
According to him, the excavation of a 9-kilometer evacuation tunnel has already been completed. It runs parallel to the main tunnel, which is 9 km long and 15 meters wide.
Currently, intensive work is underway for the installation of engineering communications, power supply, safety, and other necessary systems. The excavation of tunnels measuring 1500 m and 500 m in length has also been completed, with work ongoing for the excavation of two other tunnels.
After the project's completion, the journey from Kveshenti to Kobi will take 15 minutes instead of the current one hour.
The Kveshenti-Kobi project will be implemented in phases during 2024-2025. The total cost of the project is 1.2 million lari.
