Trump Accuses White House and Kamala Harris of Assassination Attempt Against Him

During a debate, former U.S. President Donald Trump accused the White House and specifically his opponent, Vice President Kamala Harris, of being involved in the assassination attempt against him due to the current administration's attacks. "They probably shot at my head because of everything they were saying about me. They talk about democracy, about how I am a threat to democracy; they are the threat to democracy," Trump stated.

On July 13, in Butler, Pennsylvania, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks opened fire on the former president with a firearm during a meeting with Trump supporters. The shooter was killed on the spot by law enforcement. As a result of the assassination attempt, Trump was injured in his right ear.

Following the attempt on his life, the presidential candidate criticized the intelligence agency for its inaction, stating, "It's not surprising that the once-legendary organization has 'lost the trust of America.'" On July 22, the U.S. House of Representatives Oversight Committee held hearings discussing the incident related to the attack on Trump. During the proceedings, U.S. Secret Service Chief Kimberly Cheatle admitted that the assassination attempt was "the most significant failure of the American Secret Service in decades." The next day, she resigned.
