Georgia's Prime Minister Believes Zurabishvili Has No Chance of Reelection

Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze believes that the country's president, Salome Zurabishvili, has no chance of reelection.

“According to the ratings, our ‘Georgian Dream’ party is supported by about 60 percent of voters, while the entire opposition is expected to gather around 20 percent of the votes in the parliamentary elections scheduled for October,” Kobakhidze told reporters in response to Zurabishvili's intentions to participate in the presidential elections for a second time.

“Salome Zurabishvili, when elected to the presidency, did not enjoy the confidence of the population, but thanks to the support of our party, she was still elected president. Today, she is facing the very people who elected her, aligning with the radical opposition,” said Kobakhidze.

A few days ago, Zurabishvili told Le Figaro that she wishes to become president for a second time to “bring Georgia back on the European path.”

Presidential elections in Georgia are expected to take place in November-December 2024.
