Daily Drug Packages Found in Various Areas of Yerevan: Investigative Committee
A 35-year-old man has distributed more than 150 packages of drugs in various parts of Yerevan over the course of two days. The Investigative Committee of Armenia has released details regarding this illegal drug trafficking incident.
On September 4, around 2:35 PM, police noticed a citizen on Griboedov Street who was seen holding two packages wrapped in tape. The man was taken to the police station on suspicion of illegal drug possession, use, and trafficking.
During a personal search, two packages weighing 7.56 grams of a preliminary herbal substance were found in the pockets of the 35-year-old man's shorts. It was revealed that he had ordered 110 packages of marijuana via a Telegram channel on September 3 at around 10:00 PM, some of which he had placed in the Kanaker-Zeytun administrative district for the purpose of selling.
A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident, and the 35-year-old man has been arrested. During the investigation, it became clear that since July 20, 2024, by depositing $100 through the same Telegram channel, he began to acquire approximately 20-50 packages of marijuana daily.
The packages were distributed across various locations in the Arabkir, Kanaker-Zeytun, and Avan administrative districts of Yerevan. Only on September 3 and 4, he placed a total of 154 drug packages in the Kanaker-Zeytun and Arabkir districts, photographing their locations and sending the coordinates to the specified Telegram page with the agreement of receiving $7 for each package.
According to the obtained data, the payments were made in cryptocurrencies. Relevant investigative actions were carried out with the man’s participation, during which 13 packages of substances resembling drugs were found in several locations of the Arabkir and Kanaker-Zeytun administrative districts.
Based on the collected evidence, public criminal prosecution has been initiated against the 35-year-old man under Article 393, Part 2, Clause 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia (Illegal Trafficking of Drugs), and he has been formally charged. The man is currently in custody. The investigation continues.
