Ukraine Summons Iranian Senior Diplomat to Foreign Ministry
Ukraine has announced that it has summoned a senior Iranian diplomat to its Foreign Ministry and warned him about "devastating and irreversible consequences" in bilateral relations if it is confirmed that Tehran is supplying ballistic missiles to Moscow. This was reported by Reuters.
CNN and The Wall Street Journal reported last week, citing sources, that Iran has supplied short-range ballistic missiles to Russia.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry issued a statement noting that it has called in Iran's chargé d'affaires, Shahriar Amouzegari, and has issued a "strong warning" about serious consequences for relations between the two countries if the veracity of such information is confirmed.
Yesterday, a senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Fazlollah Nozari, stated that no missiles have been sent to Russia and characterized such statements as part of a "psychological war."
"Iran does not support either side in the Russia-Ukraine conflict," said Nozari.
Western and Ukrainian officials have previously expressed skepticism regarding such denials, noting that there is ample evidence that Iran is supplying weapons, including "Shahed" drones, to Russia.
Peter Stano, spokesperson for the European Union on foreign policy, responded to inquiries on the subject via email. "We are aware of credible information provided by allies regarding the supply of Iranian ballistic missiles to Russia," he wrote.
Stano added that EU leaders have previously made it clear that they will respond swiftly and in cooperation with international partners to such an action, including through new and significant restrictive measures against Iran.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov also addressed these reports, noting that they are not always accurate. At the same time, he stated that Moscow and Tehran are developing cooperation in all areas, including the most sensitive ones.
