Mher Grigoryan Announces Official Start of Armenia-EU Visa Liberalization Negotiations
Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan has held meetings with Margaritis Schinas, Vice-President of the European Commission and Commissioner for Promoting the European Way of Life, in both narrow and extended formats. This was reported by the government press service.
During the meetings, key issues on the agenda of Armenia-EU relations were discussed, with a particular emphasis on the full implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement and the effective realization of the flagship programs developed under the EU's economic and investment plan.
The interlocutors notably highlighted the importance of commencing political and security dialogue between Armenia and the EU, as well as the deployment of the EU civilian observation mission in Armenia.
Following the meetings, Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan and Vice-President Margaritis Schinas made statements announcing the official start of negotiations regarding the liberalization of EU entry visas.
“Armenia highly values the start of the dialogue on visa liberalization, while also recognizing that achieving the ultimate goal requires consistent and targeted work. We genuinely regard this process as a strategic agenda for the modernization of migration, movement of people, and border management. Today, we are officially announcing the start of a process that will ultimately lead to the liberalization of the visa regime by the EU. I wish to reaffirm the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Armenia to advance along the path of implementing the necessary reforms outlined in the bilateral agenda with the European Commission, aimed at further developing and deepening Armenia-EU relations. In concluding my remarks, I congratulate everyone on the official start of negotiations regarding the liberalization of EU entry visas and wish for fruitful work,” said Grigoryan in his statement.
