Kyiv Withdraws Its Ambassador to Georgia
The new head of Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Andriy Sibih, has recalled the ambassador to Georgia due to a "complete misunderstanding of diplomatic realities."
He informed about the dismissal of Deputy Foreign Minister Irina Vorovets, as well as the termination of the long-term assignment of the acting chargé d'affaires in Georgia, citing the latter's complete lack of understanding of the diplomatic realities of a war-torn state.
Sibih noted that the ministry must align with the realities of a country at war, emphasizing that ambassadors "cannot be detached from reality."
The diplomat stressed that an ambassador should act as a "player-coach, who does not wait for instructions from the center but takes initiative and assumes responsibility."
The position of the acting chargé d'affaires in Georgia is filled by Mykhailo Kharishin.
Sibih was appointed to the position of Minister of Foreign Affairs on September 5, 2024. He previously served as the First Deputy Foreign Minister and Deputy Head of the Presidential Office. Dmitry Kuleba held the position of Foreign Minister before him.
