Hunger Strike in Armavir Prison Continues for Over 30 Days

A group of inmates in Armavir Prison has been on a hunger strike for over 30 days and has been isolated in the first cell of the quarantine sector, reports ArmLur.am, citing its exclusive sources.

The inmates who declared the hunger strike are: Safaryan Aram Varuzhanyi, Tadevosyan Arman Hakobi, Bavtsyani Bakhshi Rubiki, and Nazaryan Gegham.

According to the prisoners, one of their conditions is severe, and they are not being provided with adequate medical care, and there are no solutions being offered to their issues.

The head of the public relations department of the Prison Service, Nona Navikyan, informed ArmLur.am that as of September 8, there are 2 detainees and 2 convicted individuals on hunger strike in the “Armavir” penitentiary institution. One of the convicts has been on a hunger strike since August 16.

“The mentioned incarcerated individuals have not submitted any applications to the penitentiary institution addressed to other bodies. If applications are submitted, the penitentiary institution will forward them to the relevant authorities,” Nona Navikyan told the media.
