Alen Simonian Responds to Maria Zakharova's Statement
No one rules out the possibility of leaving the CSTO, but the reasons for this are well known, and the CSTO is doing everything to facilitate that. This was stated by the Chairman of the National Assembly, Alen Simonian, during a briefing with journalists.
"I can say the same regarding the November 9 statement. I do not think that Armenia should withdraw any signature from the November 9 statement. Azerbaijan and Russia have obligations to respond to Armenia regarding points 1-8, while Armenia has fulfilled its obligations under point 9. The document and the true interpretation of point 9 can be found in the decree of the President of Russia dated November 10, 2020," he said.
According to Alen Simonian, Armenia is not planning to renounce the November 9 document.
Regarding the statement made by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, suggesting that it is not in Armenia's interests to not return to the CSTO, Simonian noted: "Responding to Maria Zakharova is a thankless task. I believe that speaking to Armenia in the language of threats is a very wrong logic. We have been in the CSTO and have witnessed an attack on Armenia through another country. There has not been an anti-Russian campaign in Armenia. Let me give an abstract example: if I attack you and you resist me, would that be called an 'anti-Alen' campaign?"
