Borrell Announces Intention to Visit Ukraine Before Completing His EU Diplomatic Mandate

Josep Borrell has announced his intention to visit Ukraine before the end of his mandate as the head of EU diplomacy, a position that will be taken over by Estonia's former Prime Minister Kaja Kallas.

The EU's foreign affairs chief made a blog post while bidding farewell to the former head of Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dmitro Kuleba. He revealed that just a few days earlier, he had a phone conversation with Ukraine's new Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.

"An experienced diplomat, he has held various positions during the presidency of Zelensky and Minister Kuleba. The upcoming months will be crucial for the course of the war. It is important that an experienced official like Minister Sybiha leads Ukrainian diplomacy to continue securing international support for Ukraine, starting from the UN. Just a few days ago, we had our first phone call. I also extended my open invitation for him to participate in the EU Foreign Relations Council, which Dmitro participated in every time since the onset of Russia's large-scale invasion," Borrell noted.

"Unfortunately, the critical assistance we have already provided to Ukraine is still not enough to restore Ukraine's sovereignty across all its territory and to halt Russia's aggressive war. I assured Minister Sybiha that the EU will support Ukraine as long as necessary and no matter how much it costs. We are strengthening our political and military support for Ukraine. Ukraine has been a priority throughout my mandate," Borrell stated.
