Zakharova Threatens Retaliatory Measures Against US Sanctions
The Russian Foreign Ministry has responded to the U.S. Treasury Department's announcement of a new package of sanctions against the Russia Today media group, RT television channel, and several of their subsidiaries (Sputnik, Ruptly). Moscow will not leave the actions of the U.S. authorities, which have imposed restrictions on Russian media holdings, unanswered, stated the Russian Foreign Ministry.
"The actions of the American authorities, which directly contradict their commitments to ensure freedom of access to information and pluralism of the media, will not go unanswered. Once again, we warn that attempts to expel Russian journalists from U.S. territory, creating unacceptable conditions for their work, or any other form of obstructing their activities, including through the use of visa mechanisms, will serve as grounds for implementing commensurate or disproportionate retaliatory measures against American media," said Maria Zakharova, official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
