The 'Dance of the Mountain People' Sculpture Will Be Relocated

The government decided in its recent session to grant permission for the relocation of the sculpture titled 'Dance of the Mountain People'.

The justification for the decision notes that the sculpture is included in the state list of immovable monuments of history and culture of Yerevan, designated as a local monument. The current installation site of the monument is the square in front of the 'Dvin' hotel at 40 Paronyan Street.

The sculpture was likely installed at this location considering the appearance and name of the hotel built in the late 1970s to early 1980s. However, the hotel has since been reconstructed, and now represents an architectural entity with innovative solutions that differ from the former hotel complex, and the name 'Dvin' no longer reflects its essence.

As a result of the reconstruction, the location of the 'Dance of the Mountain People' sculpture has ended up within the hotel’s premises, hidden from public view. Furthermore, new construction works are planned for the section in front of the 'Dvin' hotel where the sculpture is currently placed, which cannot be executed without endangering the material preservation of the monument.

It has been decided to relocate the sculpture to a park area adjacent to the Mergerian Institute, which is community-owned and currently undergoing landscaping improvements.
