Passenger Transport Companies Exempt from Microbus Import Duty
The Armenian government has decided to exempt companies serving passenger transportation from import duties on microbuses. The draft resolution received approval during the government meeting today.
“We propose to exempt companies operating in the passenger transportation sector from customs duties on the import of microbuses from third countries, considering that the transport sector is regarded as a priority industry. While several incentives are established, microbuses were previously excluded from the customs duty exemption,” said Gnel Sanosyan, the Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure.
He noted that investors often see no interest and believe that the proposed incentive could have a stimulating effect. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan added that there has long been a mechanism where investment programs are presented to the government in priority areas defined by the government, allowing the exemption of customs duties on certain devices, equipment, and technologies.
“Our goal is to ensure normal transportation communication between communities within the region and between regions and the capital. We see that people either do not participate in tenders or see certain risks of monopolization. Now we want to make investments more attractive through this tool, just so that developments occur in this sector,” Pashinyan stated. He mentioned that the issue of transportation is raised in many communities.
