Number of Cases of West Nile Virus Registered in Armenia to Date

As of now, there have been 108 registered cases of West Nile virus in Armenia. This was stated during a press briefing by the Minister of Health, Anahit Avanesyan.

According to her, anti-epidemic informational work is being carried out across all regions, and all accessible measures against mosquitoes should be applied.

“Currently, we find that the rate of decline is still not sufficient, and we believe that we should keep our efforts active in the coming month to ensure a reduction coinciding with the season,” she said.

The minister confirmed that the registered figures are indeed concerning, but the symptoms appear in about 20 percent of cases, primarily among elderly individuals. She also noted that the virus is not transmitted from person to person, but only through mosquitoes.
