The Situation Remains Unstable and Very Fragile: Grossi

The situation at the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant remains unstable and very fragile. This was stated by Rafael Grossi, the Director General of the IAEA, in a new report from the agency.

Earlier, Grossi had inspected the ZNPP and then left the facility. Today, the IAEA published a new report on the ongoing efforts to maintain nuclear safety amid the conflict in Ukraine.

“In the preface of the report, Director General Grossi stated that the situation at the nuclear power plant remains unstable and very fragile,” the statement on the IAEA website reads.

The ZNPP is located on the left bank of the Dnieper River, near the city of Enerhodar. It is the largest in Europe by the number of units and installed capacity, with six power units, each with a capacity of 1 gigawatt. In October 2022, the power plant was transferred to Russian ownership. Currently, all power units at the facility are in "cold shutdown" mode and are not producing electricity.
