EU Announces Suspension of Georgia's European Integration Due to LGBT Propaganda Law

The European Union (EU) has effectively suspended Georgia's accession process. This was stated in an official announcement from the Economic Association, published by the EU Delegation in Tbilisi.

"The EU reminds that Georgia's membership process has been effectively suspended and urges the authorities to return to the path of integration with the European Union," the statement said.

The announcement comes against the backdrop of a package of bills being considered in the Georgian parliament regarding "Family Values and Protection of Minors," which prohibits LGBT propaganda in the country.

The EU Delegation believes that the new law "undermines the fundamental rights of the Georgian people and poses a danger of further stigmatization and discrimination against a part of the population."
