Dozens of Officials Executed in North Korea After Massive Floods, TV Chosun Reports

North Korean authorities executed 20 to 30 officials in late August for allegedly failing to adequately protect against floods caused by heavy rains in the north of the country. This information is reported by kommersant.ru, citing South Korean TV channel TV Chosun.

Among those executed were several officials at the level of secretaries of provincial party organizations, essentially governors of provinces. A major flood occurred in Changbai Province in July, potentially resulting in the deaths of thousands of residents, according to TV Chosun.

Approximately 15,000 residents were evacuated, around 4,100 homes were damaged, roads and rail connections were destroyed, and crops were wiped out over an area of 3,000 hectares.

According to the television channel, after the water level decreased, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un held an emergency meeting regarding the flood situation in the affected areas.
