Will Control of the Road to Nakhchivan Be Handed Over to a Private Company? The Response from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has refrained from commenting on whether discussions with Baku are underway regarding the transfer of control over future communications between Nakhchivan, Syunik, and Azerbaijan to a private entity.
The ministry stated, “The Republic of Armenia is constructively engaged in the process of unblocking regional transport routes, based on a vision grounded in the respect for sovereignty and national rights, as well as principles of equality and reciprocity,” in response to a query from Sputnik Armenia.
Earlier, political scientist Sergey Melkonyan indicated that during the most recent meeting at the level of ministers of foreign affairs, Armenia and Azerbaijan discussed the possibility of transferring control of further communications to an international private company specializing in security.
On August 31, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenia is ready to provide routes for connecting with Azerbaijan in Nakhchivan without compromising our territorial integrity.
