Israel Not Planning to Withdraw Troops from Gaza-Egypt Border, Says Netanyahu
The Prime Minister of Israel has announced that his country is not planning to withdraw troops from the Gaza Strip-Egypt border in exchange for a ceasefire agreement. Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized that control over the 'Philadelphi Corridor' is vital for overcoming Hamas.
He reported that dozens of tunnels belonging to the militant group have been discovered in the area, which have been used to transport weapons and equipment from Gaza. 'Hamas insists that we should not be there, and I assert that we must be there,' Netanyahu stated.
The Israeli Prime Minister also commented on the U.S. President's statement, which suggested that Netanyahu was not making sufficient efforts towards a hostage return deal. 'Pressure must be exerted on Hamas, not on Israel,' the Prime Minister said, adding that he does not believe that Joe Biden or anyone serious about achieving peace would ask Israel to make more concessions.
Netanyahu declared that the war in the Gaza Strip will end when Hamas is expelled from the area.
