I Don’t Consider What’s Happening in a Political Context, I’m Not Engaged in Politics: Arushanyan

I don’t consider what’s happening to me in a political context because I’m not engaged in politics. This was stated by the mayor of Goris, Arush Arushanyan, during a conversation with journalists outside the court today. He was responding to remarks that his supporters believe the actions against him are politically motivated, as the government seeks to cede territory, while Arushanyan is perceived as an obstacle.

In response to the remark that he has faced criticism for such statements in the past, including from his own supporters, he noted that people view reality through a political lens, and lately, it has become common to express opinions without being held accountable for them.

Regarding the demands from the probation service to deprive him of his liberty, Arushanyan stated that he believes his response has been misinterpreted. “I still say that I have respect for any state entity. If a specific individual within that entity is bad, that does not mean the entity itself is bad. I haven’t seen any further actions from the probation service; they are fulfilling their functions, and I am fulfilling mine. We are pro-state individuals. Just because you dislike the mayor of Goris, does that mean you despise the Goris municipality?” Arushanyan concluded.
