Putin Explains Why Ukraine Does Not Cease Military Operations
Russian President Vladimir Putin believes that the current authorities in Kyiv have very little chance of winning in elections, which is why they continue military operations and do not lift martial law.
According to Putin, “the current authorities, even by the force of internal legislation, are illegitimate; they should have held presidential elections, but they refused to do so under martial law, which does not comply with the fundamental law—the Constitution of Ukraine.”
Putin stated that this situation in Ukraine dictates the necessity to continue military operations. “If the fighting stops, the Ukrainian authorities will have to cancel martial law, and after lifting martial law, presidential elections must be held immediately,” the Russian president clarified.
“However, the current authorities are clearly not ready for that. They have little chance of being re-elected, and therefore they are not interested in stopping military operations; that is why they have carried out this provocation in the Kursk region,” the head of the Russian state emphasized.
