We Believe There Are No Alternatives: Zakharova on Armenian-Azerbaijani Relations
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, announced that the trilateral statements by the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan, and Russia are still in effect. “Yes, the trilateral statements from 2020-2022 are considered active, and they remain the basis for Armenian-Azerbaijani reconciliation, as before. We believe that there are no alternatives to them,” she stated.
According to her, there is currently no discussion on the Armenian side about withdrawing the signatures from the trilateral statements or nullifying them. “Attempts to cast doubt on those agreements are extremely dangerous,” Zakharova added.
The issue of resolving Armenian-Azerbaijani relations has been substantively discussed during the visit of the Russian President to Azerbaijan, as well as during a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. The Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson urged the journalist to clarify whether Yerevan considers those agreements to be valid or not: “But I haven’t seen any statement from official Yerevan suggesting that those agreements are not recognized.”
