Borrell Calls for Allowing European Weapons Strikes Against Russia

The EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, has stated that no one wishes to go to war with Russia. At the same time, he has urged EU countries to permit strikes on territories recognized by the EU as Russian, using European weaponry.

This information was reported by RIA Novosti. During an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers the day before, Borrell suggested that the ministers align on removing 'all restrictions' regarding strikes inside Russian territory using European weapons for the benefit of Kyiv. However, after the meeting, the diplomat noted that they had failed to establish a unified position, thus leaving the decision to each EU member state.

'Even if we consider the possibility of striking Russian territory, we are not in a state of war with Russia; no one wants to be in a warlike stance with the Russian Federation. We are simply supporting Ukraine,' Borrell said.

He also called for 'putting ourselves in Ukraine's shoes,' which 'lacks the means to retaliate' against Russia, clarifying his position by stating that 'they should have equal opportunities.'
