No Consequences Will Be Overlooked: Peskov Comments on Borrell's Statement
The transfer of revenues from Russian assets to Ukraine is illegal and will not remain without consequences for the European Union. This was stated by Dmitry Peskov, the press secretary of the President of Russia, during a conversation with reporters, commenting on the statement made by Josep Borrell, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy.
"These are illegal actions and will certainly have legal consequences. This is nothing less than illegal expropriation, or as we say in Russian, theft of our money, our property," the diplomat emphasized.
It is worth recalling that earlier, Borrell stated that Brussels had sent €1.4 billion derived from the frozen Russian assets to Ukraine, as well as to EU member states as compensation for arms supply to Kyiv.
"We have already begun to use the revenues obtained from the frozen Russian assets. €1.4 billion has been sent to Ukraine and EU countries for arms supplies," said Borrell.
He added that the EU has changed its approach to supporting Kyiv. Previously, the Union compensated countries for the supplies already made, but now it is moving towards pre-financing from the revenues obtained from the frozen Russian assets.
