Is an Extension of the Sugar Export Ban from Russia Expected?

There are currently no plans to extend the sugar export ban from Russia, which is set to expire on August 31. This information was provided to RIA Novosti by the Russian Ministry of Agriculture.

"For now, there is no intention to extend the temporary ban on the export of beet sugar and chemically pure plant sugar beyond August 31," the agency stated.

It was noted that further actions will depend on the sugar beet harvest in the new season, and the relevant decision will be made in coordination with EAEU partners.

Recall that the temporary ban on sugar exports from Russia has been in effect since early May 2024 and is intended to last until August 31. This measure aims to ensure the stability of the domestic food market. At the same time, several exceptions are outlined, allowing for supplies to EAEU countries in specific volumes. In particular, Armenia is permitted to export 28,000 tons, Belarus 5,000 tons, Kazakhstan 120,000 tons, and Kyrgyzstan 28,500 tons.
