Head of Migration and Citizenship Service Addresses Armenia-EU Visa Liberalization
The Head of the Migration and Citizenship Service has addressed the topic of visa liberalization between Armenia and the European Union (EU). This information comes from a statement issued by the Migration and Citizenship Service.
“Armen Ghazaryan, the head of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, made several important observations regarding the visa liberalization issue: A new system with biometric passports and identification cards will be introduced soon, the state must have a stable, secure, and reliable system of documents carrying biometric data, the biometric carriers used in previous documents are no longer produced worldwide, asylum applications from Armenian citizens who have legally entered EU countries lack legal grounds, more than 96 percent of asylum applications submitted by Armenian citizens are rejected, the highest number of asylum requests from Armenia to EU member states was recorded in 2016 (over 8,000 requests), while the lowest figure was in 2020 (about 1,200 requests), and the opportunity to visit European countries without a visa will arise after the completion of the dialogue on visa liberalization,” the statement added.
