Pavel Durov's Detention Extended Again

The detention of Telegram founder Pavel Durov in France has been extended again until Wednesday, August 28, according to AFP. His bodyguard and companion were released after questioning.

The prosecutor's office has warned that the detention period may be prolonged. The preventive measure could last up to 96 hours as per the procedures applicable to crimes related to organized crime. After that period, the judge will either charge Durov or release him.

The United Arab Emirates has already requested that Durov, who obtained UAE citizenship in 2021, be granted access to all necessary consular services, as reported by the country's Foreign Ministry. The Foreign Ministry has stated that Abu Dhabi is closely monitoring this case. Durov's bodyguard and companion, who “constantly accompany him,” have been questioned and released, Le Figaro reports, citing its sources.

It is important to note that Durov was recently arrested at a Paris airport. In response to his arrest, Telegram stated that the CEO has nothing to hide, often travels around Europe, and that the social network complies with EU laws, including the Digital Services Act.
