Russia and Ukraine Had Agreed to Negotiate, Le Monde
French newspaper Le Monde reports that Ukraine and Russia had agreed to negotiate in Doha in early August, mediated by Qatar, to refrain from further strikes on energy infrastructure. However, Moscow canceled the agreement following an attack by Ukrainian armed forces in the Kursk region.
“The idea emerged in mid-June after the Ukraine Peace Summit held in Switzerland. Qatar proposed to hold negotiations concerning energy, which Russia and Ukraine would participate in with the aim of achieving concrete and tangible results. However, the recent escalation (the Ukrainian incursion in Kursk) disrupted that decision,” said a diplomatic source to the publication.
It is worth noting that this was also reported earlier by the American publication The Washington Post.
