The Largest Diamond in Mining History Discovered in Botswana
The Canadian mining company Lucara Diamond has discovered a 2,492-carat diamond at the Karowe mine in Botswana, according to the company's press service.
The diamond was recovered using a special Mega Diamond Recovery X-ray Transmission technology, which allows for the detection and recovery of large gemstones in their entirety. The company installed this technology in 2017 to discover and preserve large, high-value diamonds.
As Lucara explained, previously, this mine had yielded the 1,758-carat Sewelô diamond and the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona diamond.
