In 10 Years, Millions Will Have Brain Implants, Says Elon Musk

In ten years, Neuralink implants will be installed in the brains of millions of people. This opinion was expressed by Elon Musk on his page on the social network X.

Musk indicated that if everything progresses according to plan, Neuralink will first implant hundreds in the next five years, followed by several tens of thousands, and eventually millions of users.

Neuralink is a chip that is placed in a human brain, allowing direct communication with computers or smartphones. The first surgery for this implant occurred in January 2024, conducted by a specialized robot.

The robot implanted a brain-computer interface in the part of the brain that controls movement of body parts. In March 2024, the first patient with a Neuralink implant, Nolan Arbon, demonstrated how to play chess using only the power of thought. Arbon became paralyzed seven years ago due to an unfortunate accident.

On June 25, Arbon reported that the device's efficiency continues to improve, despite some electrodes detaching from his brain. On August 5, Musk spoke about the second patient with a Neuralink implant, noting that this person's brain has 400 functioning electrodes.
