500 Homes Submerged by Landslides in Kyrgyzstan

Landslides in the resort area of Issyk-Kul, Kyrgyzstan, have flooded around 500 homes, several hotels, and vacation facilities. This was reported by the RIA Novosti agency.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan, "497 residential buildings, 3 social institutions, and recreational areas have been damaged due to landslides in the Issyk-Kul region." The ministry added that 1,048 people and 77 units of equipment are working on eliminating the consequences of the landslides.

On the evening of August 18, landslides filled the villages of Bulan Sogotu, Korumdu, Temirovka, and the area of the 'Issyk Kul-Aurora' resort. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations, there have been over 300 flooding incidents related to landslides in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of the year. The natural disasters have resulted in 22 fatalities and damages exceeding $4.7 million.
