Philanthropist and National Hero of Armenia Tigran Izmirlian Passes Away at 98

Tigran Izmirlian, the National Hero of Armenia and a prominent philanthropist, has passed away at the age of 98. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan expressed his condolences regarding Izmirlian's death, emphasizing his substantial contributions across various sectors in Armenia. This information was shared by the press service of the Armenian government.

“Under Mr. Izmirlian's leadership, the 'Izmirlian' Foundation has carried out numerous charitable programs in various fields in Armenia. Since the independence of Armenia, Tigran Izmirlian has been a vivid example of expressing love for the Republic of Armenia through his initiatives, contributing to the development of education, healthcare, and other areas in our country,” Pashinyan wrote.

He also noted that this year, in order to honor Tigran Izmirlian's work and express appreciation, he was awarded the title of National Hero of Armenia.

“Tigran Izmirlian will forever remain a worthy son of the Armenian people. I extend my condolences to the Izmirlian family, relatives, and colleagues during this difficult time, wishing them strength and patience,” the Prime Minister stated.

It is worth mentioning that the 'Izmirlian' Foundation has funded numerous projects in various fields in Armenia and Artsakh over the years, including the ‘Izmirlian’ Medical Center operated under the auspices of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Tigran Izmirlian has also received the Saint Mesrop Mashtots Medal, one of Armenia's highest honors.

Tigran Izmirlian was born in Switzerland in 1926 and had three children from two marriages.
