Over 17,000 Cases of Monkeypox Reported in African Countries

Since the beginning of this year, more than 17,000 cases of monkeypox have been reported in 13 out of 55 African Union countries. This was announced by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

"Since the beginning of 2024, a total of 17,541 cases (2,822 confirmed and 14,719 suspected) and 517 deaths have been recorded in 13 member countries of the African Union," the statement published on the website of the African Centre for Disease Control and Prevention notes.
