VIDEO: The Head of the State Revenue Committee on New Regulations

Mariam Z.

Head of the State Revenue Committee Rustam Badasyan addressed journalists after today’s government meeting regarding the new regulations of the committee, according to which the threshold for the duty-free and tax-free import of personal goods has been reduced.

Starting from August 19, individuals can bring personal items into the Republic of Armenia without customs duties and tax payments, as long as the value does not exceed the equivalent of 200 euros and the weight does not exceed 10 kilograms, via land transport and as pedestrians.

Badasyan elaborated on the purpose of this change: “For example, our compatriots living in Javakheti come to Armenia, and this does not apply to them. They bring their clothes with them; they are students and take back the items they have used. In other words, whether the threshold was 30 kg or 10 kg, this does not apply to them. It also does not apply to you or me if we cross the border through Bagratashen, take some items for our needs from Georgia, and return.”

“However, we notice the following trend: for example, clothing is mainly brought from Turkey for business purposes, and attempts are made to use this exemption for commercial purposes. The aim of lowering this threshold is to prevent such goods from being imported into the Republic of Armenia for business purposes. I assure our citizens that there will not be total control for those who bring certain goods for personal use; they will not face any problems,” he concluded.
