Russia's Foreign Ministry Calls on Armenian Authorities Not to Allow Use of 8th Grade History Textbook in Schools

The Russian Foreign Ministry has called on Armenian authorities not to allow the use of the 8th-grade history textbook in schools. This information was reported in a statement released by the Foreign Ministry, as reported by TASS.

The Russian Foreign Ministry drew attention to the "extremely dubious content of the Armenian 8th-grade history textbook," the text of which has been published on the official website of Armenia's Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports.

In one of the chapters of the new manual, under the provocative title "The Forced Annexation of Eastern Armenia to Russia," events that took place in the South Caucasus at the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century are misrepresented. In particular, the assessments of the outcomes of the Russo-Persian War of 1826-1828 were subject to revision.

To cast doubt on the special role of the Russian Empire, the USSR, and Russia in the formation of modern-day Armenia is to contradict well-known facts. This is yet another shameless attempt to rewrite our common history,” the Russian Foreign Ministry's statement emphasized.

“We hope that the Armenian authorities will not allow such a textbook to be transferred to schools, and will not turn a blind eye to such purist attempts to distort our shared past,” the message concluded.
