German Military Base Closed Due to Sabotage Suspicions

The German military base near Cologne Airport has been surrounded, and thousands of soldiers have been advised not to drink tap water as authorities investigate what may be an act of sabotage, Spiegel magazine reported.

The water supply at the base, which houses 4,300 soldiers and 1,200 civilian personnel, may have been contaminated after an individual breached the area adjacent to Cologne Airport, the publication indicated.

According to German media, the police, military police, and the MAD military intelligence agency are investigating the incident.

The Cologne-Wahn base is home to the station for military aircraft used for the travel of the country's Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his ministers.
