In numerous communities, we are reconstructing and restoring streets and sidewalks through subsidy programs. This was stated by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan in a video posted on Facebook.

"I have a habit of going to these places and seeing what is happening, and I bizarrely note that often the sidewalks are used as parking lots, meaning there are vehicles parked on the sidewalks, which is, of course, problematic because we have restored these sidewalks to allow pedestrians to walk," he mentioned.

According to the Prime Minister, the second issue is as follows: "People, without hesitation, are pouring concrete on the sidewalks. I mean they are making cement mixtures for some purpose, to use during construction in their backyard or elsewhere. They do not consider that this cement mixture leaves a layer on asphalt or paving stones and, in fact, ruins the project with that action."

The next phenomenon he pointed out is that sidewalks are turned into construction sites, where sand and stones are dumped, and construction tools are left, thus disrupting pedestrian movement. A question arises, what is the purpose of spending that tens, hundreds, or even billions of money if it does not serve its intended purpose?" said the Prime Minister.

Another phenomenon, according to him, is when people indiscriminately dig up newly asphalted or renovated streets. "I have seen several places where potholes have formed on newly renovated roads, which is a regrettable phenomenon. In this regard, I have given directives to state institutions; I just want to share with the public because there is a need for public awareness since we are the ones doing all this, not others. Let’s try to be a little more attentive and avoid doing this, and let’s also encourage others, in a friendly manner, without tension, to prevent such things from happening. If such things happen, let’s address the relevant authorities — local governments, regional administrations, inspection bodies, police — so that state institutions also take action and fulfill their duties. I have given directives, but additional effort will not be unnecessary," Pashinyan stated.
