A Large Gas Field Discovered in the South China Sea

The China National Offshore Oil Corporation has discovered a large natural gas field in the South China Sea, with reserves exceeding 100 billion cubic meters, according to the South China Morning Post.

The field was discovered in June, and just days ago, the relevant authorities in China completed their review of the company's application and registered the field, naming it Lingshui 36-1.

The new gas field is located southeast of Hainan Island. The average depth of the sea in this area reaches 1,500 meters, while the gas reservoir is situated at a depth of 210 meters below the seabed.

China is the world's largest importer of natural gas. In 2023 alone, China purchased 120 million tons of blue fuel, spending 64.3 billion dollars.
